COMMUNITY NEWS
Our very own hometown Louisiana National Guard unit, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 156th Infantry (HHC3-156th), Lake Charles, Louisiana is deploying to an overseas combat tour in Iraq.
The Lake Charles Armed Forces Commission (MAFC) in concert with W.B. Williamson American Legion Post 1, B.E.S.T., the City employees volunteer organization, and other area organizations have committed to send a CARE package to every deployed soldier in the unit every other month for the duration of his or her tour. We will work with the 3-156th Family Readiness Support Group to accomplish this important mission. Our goal is to show our ongoing support and appreciation for the service and sacrifice of our hometown heroes by sending them a little piece of home throughout the year. These CARE packages have proven a great morale booster and lets our troops know in a very tangible way that we are thinking of them and support them.
With approximately 165 deployed soldiers in our hometown National Guard unit, we need approximately $16,500.00 to cover costs, which includes $12.50 per package for postage alone.
Adopt a Bayou Bandit Louisiana National Guard Soldier with your donation! A $100.00 donation will cover the cost of shipping CARE packages to one soldier for a year! A donation in any amount will be greatly appreciated. Please remember that this is a year-long project so donations throughout the year will be needed.
Please send your generous tax-deductible donations of funds as well as items to place in the care packages to the following addresses:
